2024 Choral Discovery Concerts

Join St Martin’s Voices for our new series of hour-long Choral Discovery Concerts at St Martin-in-the-Fields this year. We’re kicking off the series this week with Songs of Justice, which explores different musical responses to injustice through works by James MacMillan, Philip Moore, Jessica Curry and Cecilia McDowall.

On Tuesday 12 March we will begin our exciting new collaboration with the Piatti Quartet, exploring choral and instrumental works which reflect on the Seven Last Words on the Cross and the journey from Lent to Easter. The following month, on Tuesday 23 April, we will combine forces again to perform John Tavener’s extended choral work Ikon of Light. Composed in 1984 and commissioned by the Tallis Scholars, this work was inspired by the Invocation to the Holy Spirit by Simeon, who describes his vision of God as uncreated divine light.

Finally, on Tuesday 28 May we present In the Beginning – a programme which explores the imagery of creation stories from the sixteenth century to the present day. Early choral pieces by composers including Lassus are contrasted with twentieth century works by Copland and Pärt, as well as more contemporary musical depictions of creation by Lang, Rautavaara and Rehnqvist.

These hour-long performances are just £10 per ticket – to find out more and to book, click here
