The Blessing of Light: A New Musical Journey Through the Church Year

On Tuesday 29 September, we released The Blessing of Light, continuing our musical journey with the Church of England.
The album follows our previous collaboration, The Gift of This New Day, which explored music for Morning Prayer and the beginning of the day. With The Blessing of Light, we turn towards Evening Prayer, creating a musical companion for the close of the day and reflecting on the changing seasons of the Church year. Bringing together music for prayer, reflection and worship, the collection offers listeners an opportunity to pause, listen and reflect - whether as part of personal prayer or simply as a moment of stillness at the end of a busy day.
The Blessing of Light brings together music by more than twenty composers, spanning centuries of sacred music. Ancient voices such as Hildegard of Bingen and William Byrd sit alongside contemporary composers including Bernadette Farrell and Philip Moore, connecting the musical heritage of the Church with new expressions of faith. The album also features newly commissioned settings of the Advent Antiphons, commissioned by the Church of England in 2025. These new works bring fresh musical perspectives to ancient Advent texts and sit alongside familiar favourites and newly recorded repertoire.
We hope The Blessing of Light will become a companion for prayer, worship and reflection, bringing something of the beauty and stillness of Evening Prayer into homes and hearts wherever it is heard.
