Trumpeter Imogen Whitehead will be taking on the mantle as this year’s Artist-in-Residence with St Martin’s Voices.
Imogen will perform three concerts with St Martin’s Voices on Tuesday 12 November 2024, Tuesday 25 March 2025 and Tuesday 10 June 2025, together with a further three concerts with St Martin’s Chamber Ensemble, the first of which takes place on Saturday 23 November 2024.
Imogen Whitehead said: ‘I am thrilled to be Artist-in-Residence with St Martin’s Voices for the coming season. Over the past few years, I have worked alongside St Martin’s Voices many times and have always been blown away by their incredible collective sound and skill. I’m looking forward to performing a variety of repertoire (both established and brand new) for trumpet/flugelhorn and vocal ensemble, and to developing this exciting relationship in the months ahead.’
Imogen Whitehead is a trumpeter in demand across the UK and abroad. Alongside her position as Principal Trumpet with Britten Sinfonia, Imogen regularly performs as guest Principal Trumpet with the London Symphony Orchestra, Aurora Orchestra, and English National Opera. As a soloist, Imogen has premiered numerous works including Stephen Dodgson’s Trumpet Concerto and Trinculo by Sally Beamish, commissioned for her by the Park Lane Group. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, Imogen studied privately in Oslo with renowned Norwegian soloist Tine Thing Helseth thanks to funding from the Royal Philharmonic Society. In early 2025 Imogen will be releasing an online solo album, recorded alongside Britten Sinfonia and pianist Jennifer Walsh, featuring works for trumpet and flugelhorn by contemporary British composers. Imogen is a particular champion of the flugelhorn – an instrument often overlooked in the classical sphere – and is committed to raising its solo profile through new commissions and arrangements.
